QUASAR motor control software and the SKAI inverter hardware platform are an established team. Optimal tailoring to the application results in getting the best out of the powertrain. The control system can be adapted to particular types of motor. Angular and temperature sensors are integrated and the performance data of the entire powertrain package is verified on the motor test bench.
Compact SKAI inverters are already fully equipped with current sensors, IGBT drivers and a fast processor (DSP). QUASAR motor control software functionally complements the system and completes this tried-and-tested package.
The QUASAR motor-control software is based on a modern, field-oriented control system. It guarantees stable control of the electrical machine up to the strong field weakening range, and therefore enables the development of dynamic and efficient traction drives or generator solutions. QUASAR receives input from a central controller via CANbus and converts this precisely into a speed or torque.
The standard software package is designed for the control of brushless DC, and interior and surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous and AC induction motors. Different motor types can be parameterized using the software.
QUASAR also offers a powerful set of functions and features, such as temperature monitoring of both the motor and inverter, battery deep discharge protection, over-voltage protection for DC energy recovery, CAN communication in accordance with the CANopen protocol, and software updates via the CAN boot loader in the vehicle network. The control frequency is 8/16kHz and the software itself was developed in compliance with the international MISRA-C standard.

The Q-Control software package for QUASAR software visualization and parameterization is also available. This Windows application enables at-a-glance viewing of allimportant QUASAR data. Using the integrated oscilloscope, engineers can track states with a resolution of up to 8 or 16kHz respectively. QControl also provides access to all QUASAR parameters and enables the engineer to update, if necessary, the software on the SKAI system by using CANbus.
The SKAI platform is a highly integrated inverter electronics system. These inverters provide the ideal powertrain solution for applications such as electrical and hybrid vehicles, agricultural and utility motors, communal vehicles, buses, motorbikes, and boats.
The inverter covers a battery voltage range from 24-800V with its two product groups, the SKAI Low Voltage up to 150V and SKAI High Voltage up to 800V. The SKAI HV family’s power range extends up to 250kVA, and SKAI LV technology covers a range of up to 55kVA.
